16 DPO Faint Line: Two Days Late—What's Going On?
Two days past your expected period with only a faint line? Here's what to consider.
16 DPO: should the line be darker?
By 16 DPO, most pregnancy tests show a strong positive. A faint line at this point is worth paying attention to—though it doesn't necessarily indicate a problem.
Possible explanations
1) Your ovulation date is wrong (most common). 2) You're using a less sensitive test. 3) You're testing with diluted urine. 4) hCG is rising slower than average (can be normal).
Track the trend, not the single test
Compare your 16 DPO test to tests from days 12-14. Is there visible darkening? Use our side-by-side comparison feature. Progression over time tells you more than any single test.
When to seek medical input
If you've been testing since 10-11 DPO and lines aren't progressing, or if you have pain/bleeding, contact your healthcare provider. They can order a blood hCG test to check your levels accurately.
